Dark Reflection by Draven-uk (Signed) - 14 Nov 2014 - 03:14 starstarstarstarhalf-star
Yep, I know. Dark and grim. But I can relate.

Author's Response: Sadly, I get the feeling a lot of folks can, and I wish them all the best of luck.

Heh. Good stuff. Wonderfully eerie and spooky.

Beware the spooky old ghost town from hell lest it claim your soul and make you a ghost as well. :)

Author's Response: Thanks, compared to most things I've written, I lost count of how many drafts and versions that one went through! :P

Very cool. Definitely captured the Lovecraftian feel - Cthulhu etc. I'm not that well versed in Lovecraft but have read some of his stuff over the years/seen films/felt his influence through so much of modern horror. I do have more on my nightstand that I intend to consume and have just started At The Mountains of Madness. Brrr

Author's Response: Looks like I need to check in more often. :) It seems like I've fallen so far behind on the e-fic scene these days.... Thanks for the feedback, Drav.

Excellent poem. Dark and scary. Love it. And I especially love the following bit:

"Thoughts that flap on leathery wings,
Horror that simply is, as if for its own sake."

Author's Response: Thanks. I'm not really much of a poet, but this one just came to me all in one piece, one night at work years ago. It was originally scribbled on a napkin while I was wiping down tables.

I really liked this poem. I think you captured fear very well, especially in the later half of the poem. "An unseen presence/Past the beam of your flashlight" took me back to the last time I was good and scared. "Thoughts that flap on leathery wings" was a brilliant line. Excellent job.

Author's Response: Thanks. I was kind of in a bad place in my life when I wrote that.
